Friends call me Gray.
I’m an integrated designer who loves variety and challenge. I’ve worked with some pretty big names (such as Publicis, Ogilvy & Mather, Grey London, Adam&Eve DDB, The Corner, Exposure, Proximity, Saatchi and Saatchi, Hogarth, Droga 5, AMV and JWT) on some really great projects (including Coca-Cola, Adidas, BT, Nike, Sky, Pepsi and Eurosport), but I get just as big a kick out of helping smaller companies look better.
I started out as a junior at the Moving Picture Company, where I learned about pixels and broadcast media and 2D animation. I then moved to DDB London, where I was taught about four-colour, layout and typography. That was a brilliant studio. But I was young, and it’s a big world…
…So I moved to Australia, and spent four and a half years travelling and surfing – before settling down at a small ad agency on the Northern Beaches and learning a butt-tonne of stuff from their award-winning creative director.
Thanks to him, when I eventually got homesick I was able to come back with a portfolio that got me freelance gigs with some of London’s top agencies. Apart from those listed above I’ve worked for Noah, More Creative, Weapon 7, Live and Breathe, Engine, Jam and Monk London, to name just a few.
I also set up my own studio, got married and my wife and I had 2 gorgeous children!
Today, I work across multiple channels – from print to digital, advertising to publishing, branding to toolkits, and posters to TV. Projects worked on range from Unilever to London Southend Airport, Peroni to Tiptree Jams, Firefox to Mercedes – and everything in between. I’m not a web developer (I leave that to those who live and breathe code), but I’m very comfortable working alongside specialists such as web developers, copywriters and photographers, either designing solo or as part of a team.
When I’m not at work I like rolling around the floor, kicking and screaming… with my 3 year old daughter and eight-year old son respectively trying to get the remote control back. He’s a mad-keen Arsenal fan too, so clearly I’m a good father. I’m also seriously into keeping fit, and I like to cook when I actually get the time.
