Friends call me Gray.

I’m a designer who loves variety and challenge. I’ve worked with some pretty big names (Sapient, Amplify, Hogarth, Havas, Grey, M&C, adam&eveDDB, Saatchi & Saatchi, Engine, WeAreFearless, Ogilvy, Fold7, Proximity, Brave Marketing, The Corner, Publicis, Digitas, Exposure, Fallon, CHI, AMV, Droga5, Haygarth and St Luke’s) on some really great projects (including Coca-Cola, Adidas, BT, Nike, Sky, Pepsi and Eurosport), but I get just as big a kick out of helping smaller companies look better.

I started out as a junior at the Moving Picture Company, where I learned about pixels, broadcast media and 2D animation. I then moved to DDB London, where I was taught about four-colour print, layout and typography. That was a brilliant studio. But I was young, and it’s a big world…

…so I moved to Australia and spent four and a half years travelling and surfing before settling down at a small ad agency on the Northern Beaches, where I learned a butt-tonne of stuff from their award-winning creative director.

Thanks to him, when I eventually got homesick, I was able to come back with a portfolio that landed me freelance gigs with some of London’s top agencies. Apart from those listed above, I’ve also worked for Noah, More Creative, Weapon 7, Live and Breathe, Jam and Monk London, to name just a few. I also set up my own studio and, in the process, had two gorgeous children who are my world.

Today, I work across multiple channels — from print to digital, advertising to publishing, branding to toolkits, posters to TV — and I’m also known for producing beautiful presentations across PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Suite. See: https://slidebook.co.uk/

Projects I’ve worked on range from Unilever to London Southend Airport, Peroni to Tiptree Jams, Firefox to Mercedes — and everything in between.

As well as this, I work with my own client base, including Skyscanner, Public Digital, Pelion, Zoe, The Dot Group, Mannaz, Xero, TotalFoods and AFTV (I am a mad Gooner), plus various other clients on a freelance basis.

I’m not a web developer (I leave that to those who live and breathe code), but I’m very comfortable working alongside specialists such as developers, copywriters, photographers, and creative directors—either designing solo or as part of a team. I’m equally happy taking a concept or key visual and rolling it out across multiple channels, or getting stuck in and taking projects through to finished digital or press-ready artwork.

I’ve been around long enough to know it’s a massive team effort. Collaboration, the ability to take constructive feedback, taking responsibility, and being able to hit the ground running are key—my referrals back that up: https://www.grahamconway.net/nicewords

When I’m not at work, I like rolling around on the floor, kicking and screaming… with my 12-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son, respectively, trying to get the remote control back or picking up their washing (I was the same at that age). He’s also a mad-keen Arsenal fan, so clearly I’m a good father.

I’m also seriously into keeping fit, I like to cook, have a big interest in AI, and when I actually get the time, I head to the Emirates with my little lad to watch our beloved mighty Arsenal — though getting tickets is basically a lottery now.

Big Love, Gray 🙂
